Copa Airlines Expands Capabilities through Successful Migration to IFS Cloud for Aviation Maintenance (ICAM)

The seamless transition supports more than 130 aircraft and 1,300 users, providing Copa Airlines with greater agility and visibility across operations while creating a scalable foundation for continued innovation

IFS, the world’s leading provider of Industrial AI software, and Copa Airlines, today announced that Copa is the first IFS airline customer to migrate to IFS Cloud for Aviation Maintenance (ICAM) and go live on the solution within the IFS Hosted Cloud environment.

For Copa Airlines, the move is the latest step in a long-standing focus on operational excellence, reliability, and continuous improvement as it modernises the mission-critical part of its operation while maintaining the continuity required to keep a complex airline running.

The new IFS Cloud for Aviation Maintenance platform provides Copa with a standardised cloud architecture to support its growing maintenance organisation, which spans more than 130 aircraft and over 1,300 users. The solution brings engineering, planning, maintenance, and operational processes together in a modern cloud environment designed specifically for aviation – streamlining upgrades, improving access to innovation, and strengthening operational resilience.

Rafael Samudio, Vice President, Technical Operations, Copa Airlines
, said: “For Copa Airlines, this transformation is about giving our maintenance teams the visibility, flexibility, and confidence they need to support an evolving operation while maintaining the reliability our customers depend on every day. IFS Cloud for Aviation Maintenance gives us a modern, scalable foundation to simplify complex processes and continue improving how we work. The transition was carefully planned around our operational requirements, and our long-standing partnership with IFS helped us move forward with confidence.”

Built from the ground up, ICAM helps aviation maintenance organisations maximise the revenue potential of all assets through standard, lean, and predictive maintenance. Featuring capabilities such as controlled workflow, automated maintenance and materials planning, point-of-maintenance access to real-time aircraft information, and paperless execution and compliance, ICAM drives real value across an organisation’s maintenance management chain. The migration was delivered through extensive testing, readiness assessments, user acceptance activities, and operational continuity planning. That disciplined approach enabled Copa Airlines to transition a highly complex, mission-critical maintenance environment to the cloud while supporting day-to-day operations throughout the process.

The successful go-live also provides a practical example for other airlines evaluating how to modernise established MRO environments. Rather than treating cloud migration as simply a technology upgrade, the project was built around operational readiness, continuity, and the realities of airline maintenance.

Mark Buongiorno, President, Aerospace & Defence, IFS, said: “Copa Airlines led this transformation with a clear vision and the operational discipline required for a change of this scale. We’re proud that IFS technology, our aviation expertise, and our partnership with Copa could support that ambition. What Copa has achieved provides a valuable reference point for other airlines considering their own modernisation journey. It demonstrates that mission-critical maintenance can move to a cloud-enabled platform in an aligned approach which is grounded in the realities of airline operations.”

Copa Airlines has been an IFS customer since 2017. With the migration complete, the airline now has a modern cloud foundation to support greater visibility, continued optimisation, and future aviation maintenance capabilities as its operation evolves. IFS and Copa Airlines will continue working together to build on that foundation and support the airline’s next stage of maintenance transformation.
