Thomas Global Systems TFD-4000 LCD Flight Display Upgrade receives FAA STC approval for MHI CRJ 1000

  • Innovative CRT-to-LCD display upgrade resolves CRT display obsolescence and extends the life and value of CRJ Series Pro Line 4 flight decks
  • Now operators of all CRJ Series models can benefit from the TFD-4000’s practical and efficient drop-in LCD display technology

Thomas Global Systems has received Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Supplemental Type Certification (STC) approval for the TFD-4000 drop-in LCD flight display upgrade for MHI CRJ 1000 flight decks. This latest certification follows previously received FAA STC approval for other CRJ Series models, including CRJ 200, CRJ 700 and CRJ 900.

“FAA approval for the TFD-4000 LCD flight display upgrade is a significant milestone in our commitment to helping all CRJ Series operators extend the life and value of their Pro Line 4 flight decks,” said David Barnes, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Avionics & Mission Electronics at Thomas Global Systems. “The TFD-4000 drop-in LCD upgrade allows operators to continue flying their existing CRJ 200/700/900/1000 Pro Line 4 configuration with dramatically improved display performance, reliability, efficiency, and product support.”

The TFD-4000 drop-in LCD solution is a form-fit upgrade for Collins Aerospace EFD-4076 CRT displays currently installed on MHI CRJ Series flight decks. This upgrade efficiently resolves CRT obsolescence issues, avoids costly flight deck modifications, and significantly enhances display reliability. The TFD-4000 lowers lifecycle costs by replacing the EFD-4076’s highest failure rate components and combines high-performance AMLCD technology and a proven analog-to-digital (A-D) software core design. Integrating seamlessly into existing EFD-4076 Pro Line 4 architecture and Built-In Test Equipment (BITE), the TFD-4000 is interchangeable and intermixable with legacy EFD-4076 CRT displays and does not impact OEM display software Service Bulletins.

Thomas Global Systems previously announced that it had secured SkyWest Airlines, a subsidiary of SkyWest, Inc, as the launch customer to upgrade its CRJ Series flight decks with the TFD-4000 flight display. Read the full press release here.

Transport Canada Civil Aviation (TCCA) and European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) and other certifications are targeted by the end of the year.
The TFD-4000 leverages Thomas Global Systems’ proven technology currently operating across Boeing 767/757/737-C, ATR 42/72, Dash 8, Saab 340, EMB120 and other regional and business airframes.
